In 2000, the club began building a modular N scale layout which is still displayed
at many shows. The same year the name was changed to Sugar Creek Model
Railroad and Historical society, Inc.
In 2003, Pres. Larry Keith proposed the club host a train show in NW Arkansas.
There were many fears expressed; location, how were we going to pay for a facility,
would vendors be responsive, and would train entusists come. Larry recommended
that we step out and look for a location; many sites were reviewed and because of
location and the attractivenesss, the Clarion Hotel & Convention Center of Bentonvile
was chosen. How in the world were we going to pay for the Clarion.
We signed a contrract with the Clarion and we started to advertise. The response was
fantastic and the first show was held in the spring off 2004. The vendors were very
pleased and the public was
impressed with all the working layouts. Layous were from Missouri, Oklahoma and
Arkansas.
Because of Larry Keith's vision and club members participation , the show has
continued to grow each year.
However; the goals of the original club members are of the utmost importance.
- Promotion and enjoyment of model railroading as a hobby
- Advancement of modeling skills
- Education of the public concerning the history of railroading and railroads
The club presently has two trailers housing traveling layouts of G, O, HO and N gauges
and all the associated equipment. We also have a mountain like module that is a
working display of G to Z. Picture G gauge at the lowest level and the Z at the top level.
