History of SCMRR
It all began in March 1992 when Neil Leavens and Ralph Carter of Bella
Vista, Arhansas decided to put an article in the paper to see if anyone was interested
in forming a model railroad club. The article appeared in the April issue of the Bella
Vista weekly. Calls started coming and the first meeting was scheduled for Saturday
March 21st, 1992. About 17 people showed up. By the second meeting of April 21st the
roster had increased to 22 . Of the original group only Phil Story, our treasurer, is still
an active member. The officers were Ralph Carter-Pres. , Neil Leavens-Vice Pres., Bill Walters-Sect./Treasurer/Editor. Shortly thereafter, Phil Story became Superintendent of
Operations. Meetings were held monthly in members homes.
The club eventually located at the old Cooper Sales Office on Loch Lomond which was
torn down for housing. The efforts of Dick Russ and Don Bright, enabled the club to be
located in a storage area of Bella Vista Methodist Church.
Since there was adequate space to work on modules, Phil story and Don Wilson,
among others began working modular units. The total size , when fastened together,
was about 28' x 14'. After about two years the church decided they needed the storage
area. The disposition of the modules were left to the members who had provided funds
and time to build them.
The club continued to meet in one of the classrooms at the Methodist Church.
